About

I'm Ying Chieh Wang, from Taiwan, now an M.S. student at The University of Osaka researching how machine learning can speed up city-scale simulation.

Background

Born in Taipei and raised in Tainan, Taiwan, I studied physical education at National Taiwan University of Sport and coached five-a-side and eleven-a-side youth football and refereed matches, then completed my military service in early 2019.

In 2019 I decided to move into software and AI, and spent almost a year teaching myself Japanese up to JLPT N1. I moved to Japan in 2020, studied at a Japanese language school for two years, and entered the School of Engineering Science at The University of Osaka in 2022, where I studied computer hardware and software, algorithms, machine learning, and the rest of the computer science fundamentals.

I joined the Yamaguchi Lab (mobile computing and urban digital twins) in 2025 and started at the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology at The University of Osaka in 2026. I research fast simulation of light pollution from Urban Air Mobility, published at IEEE SmartComp 2026, and have started working on flight planning for agricultural drones.

Outside research, I build and publish Android apps under the ForgerWise name and am developing a game, and I have interned at H&K, PKSHA Technology, Stanby, M3, and How Television.

What I'm looking for

{ "From April 2028": "a backend / software engineer or AI/ML engineer role." }

So far I have built API integrations and backend services with Python and AWS, and researched simulation speed-ups with PyTorch. Next, I want to design and operate large-scale services.

AI Development Tools

Used for implementation, debugging, and refactoring, and even more as a sparring partner for thinking problems through and finding ideas. FoodList and Wiser Locker were hand-written at first and are now extended with AI; my research code is mostly AI-written; Galaxization and this site are written by AI. I own the requirements and design decisions, and set what to test or let the agents design their own tests.
